The Forward

The design for the Forward machine was patented in the UK in 1873. It was registered by Alfred Johnson, who may have been acting as an agent in this instance. The mechanics of the miniature chain stitch closely resemble those of Newton Wilson's Queen Bess model, which was patented one year earlier.
