Griswold Patent

Leo Griswold patented his lockstitch model in the UK in 1873. The machine was designed specifically for treadle use. The pinion "N" was to be fabricated from rawhide - in an attempt to lessen operational noise.
The horizontally mounted flywheel configuration certainly gives the machine a rather strange appearance.
